Islam and Jewish Prayers for Peace

Peace

Jews and Muslims have been in conflict for a long time, but Islam and Judaism share many beliefs and long history. Both faiths worship one God and value peace. Today I want to share two short but important prayers about peace, one from each faith.

First, an excerpt from an Islamic Prayer for Peace from the U.N. Day of Prayer for World Peace.

The servants of God Most Gracious

are those who walk on the Earth in humility,

and when we address them,

we say, "Peace."

From the Jewish holy book, the Torah, Isaiah 57:19 we read:

Peace! Peace!

Near and far

— said the Lord —

and I shall heal them.

Whether you pray a Jewish prayer, or an Islamic prayer, a different prayer, or none at all, I’m praying for you. My prayer for you is that you may find peace and healing. You are worthy, the You behind the mask, with no need to hide.
